The Angier PTO is pleased to announce that our first PTO meeting of the 2005-2006 school year will take place on Wednesday, October 26, 2005 at 7 PM, in the Barbara Feldstein Library at Angier 1697 Beacon Street.

The evening’s program will be dedicated to “bullying,” and how we as a school community can better address its impact on our children. This is a timely topic as the city of Newton has developed a city-wide curriculum about bullying which will be introduced to students and faculty this year.

Our presenters that evening will be Suzanne Glick Gilfix, Esq. and Dave Shannon, LICSW of “The Anti-Bullying Solution;” the title of their program is: “THE ANTI-BULLYING SOLUTION PRESENTS an EVENING with PARENTS- BULLYING 101.” The evening will include an explanation of different types of bullying, relevant statistics for elementary school children, the role of gender and bullying behavior, and how parents can help to create an empathetic child and a meaningful bystander. They will use role plays and interactive exercises, as well as “tips and tactics” for parents.

RAIN DATE — Boston/Newton Family Picnic
Sunday, October 23
2:00 to 5:00 pm
John Pope Paul II Park
(Rain Date Oct. 29)

Please join us for our first Boston and Newton picnic at Pope John Paul Park, Hallet Street in Dorchester (immediately after Walgreens on Gallivan Blvd, if you pass the car wash, you’ve gone too far).
This outing is being organized to build upon and strengthen the relationships that have been made between students and families from Boston and Newton. This is a great way for parents and kids to meet and greet each other.
The picnic is a brown bag affair. If you prefer not to bring food, there are several places in the neighborhood that can accommodate you.
This effort is being coordinated by your Boston Liaisons and the Newton PTO Council. Any questions, please call your liaisons, Joy (617-282-4696), or Bernadette (617-364-5512).
Pope John Paul Park has a playground for the kids, a beautiful scenic walking path (with a pond) and last but not least, it has a soccer field for our sports fans. You can fly a kite, walk, play a game of catch or just sit and chat with other families. We hope to see everyone there.

The Book Fair and Harvest Festival continue for a second day! Come join the fun. Times to be posted shortly.

The PTO will host a book fair with excellent books for sale at very reasonable prices.
The Harvest Fair will happen in conjunction with the book sale. More information coming soon on times and activities.

Discussion of the Williams Traffic study is on the agenga of the Public Safety & Transportation Committee for October 19th. More details on the meeting will be posted as soon as they become available.
